One of my favourite scenes from Anna (1967, Director: Pierre Koralnik): Marianne Faithfull, in her only scene, sings 'Hier ou demain'. The song, as with all the songs in the film, was written by Serge Gainsbourg. pic.twitter.com/mWmDR6s2Hu

@tinynoggin @vadimkosmos Raechel, I found a 1967 Serge Gainsbourg interview when looking this stuff up yesterday. Thought you might like a copy - let me know! pic.twitter.com/WulEm5TtKc
@tinynoggin @vadimkosmos And 'Comic Strip' is hard for me to mentally separate from the amazing clip from Spécial Bardot!
@tinynoggin @vadimkosmos I thought Maria Ninguem was a bit too on key for her voice, but now I listen more closely, it is a bit flatter/looser in the vocals than I originally heard.
I think a lot of this stuff gets put on comps/anthologies with her name attached and it muddles things.

@tinynoggin @vadimkosmos Do you have some other examples, Raechel? Surely this not actually Bardot... https://t.co/uDIdraN8TI
@vadimkosmos Sorry, there's another show in Nov 1967, 'Mister Gainsbourg', that has 'Comic Strip' listed in the performances. 🤓
@vadimkosmos I went looking in a Swiss archive I use for old French TV listings & music articles, and the first mention of Comic Strip is a listing for the Tilt episode. Then nothing until the Bardot show 6 months later. pic.twitter.com/hG5NCpWtkH
@vadimkosmos I keep forgetting there is actually a translation of Verlant's book. I'll have to grab a copy.
@vadimkosmos And I believe the Bardot version doesn't debut until the show Spécial Bardot? That was Jan 1, 1968. Funny, I've seen both of these (I have the full show with SG & Darc, too), and I never put those dates together!

@vadimkosmos This one? ina.fr/video/I04232189
@vadimkosmos Really! I'm gonna have to listen to both to compare now...
BTW, I notice there are quite a few versions performed on French variety shows - SG & JB a few times, Cloclo & Jodie Foster, Dutronc & JB... it's quite an odd song to become something of a standard.
@vadimkosmos Huh, I didn't know that... interesting!
RT @vadimkosmos: @french_pop And Bardot’s vocals are actually sung by Madeline Bell!
Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin - Comic Strip (Si le cœur vous en dit, 1972) https://t.co/rnCjQxPTID. The song is, of course, actually Gainsbourg's 1968 duet with Brigitte Bardot - Birkin mimes Bardot's parts. Director: Jean-Christophe Averty.

@CGhemmour Sure, I'm aware of all that (note I said 'roped in', meaning he/others lacked control)... but my read is that he's not simply being awkward, but wryly communicating his distaste for these obligatory appearances.
Serge Gainsbourg affecting cool boredom - or possibly genuinely bored, considering the number of these lip-synced TV performances stars got roped into! - on 'Show Tom Jones', July 30, 1966. Song is the marvellous 'Qui est in, qui est out'. https://t.co/oQP8KG6QP4 https://t.co/ePyt4F9zj0
